James Pereire and new bride Qune 13, 1995) Marie-Christine will be returning to the states for our magnificent 40th Reunion next June 10-13. Paul Berry reports of the doings of the newlyweds in Paris recently, where a new garden rose has been named in James's honor. Clem Malin attended the bachelor party in Paris with Paul and James and'"it was great fun," says Clem.
Paul writes: "There is something like a sub-chapter of '56 here in Paris. James Pereire holds all of the senior positions in this two-man club, while I act as dishwasher and sweeper. Once or twice yearly these gatherings take on an added dimension when our stateside class guru Clem Malin comes over to check us out. Most meetings are highly secretive, but a recent one was so momentous as to deserve clear echoes. A birthday bash for James and his new namesake took the form of a lunchcocktail onboard a huge Seine cruise boat, the Bel Ami. The guests knew very well that Marie-Christine, James's friend for many years, had planned and organized this very special flower festival in his honor. Even before the 25th class reunion, it was evident that Marie-Christine was the muse behind James's inspirations. That may be why the crowd reconvened, at the Mairie of the 7th Arrondissement of Paris, to celebrate the marriage of the couple. At the wedding party held that evening on board Bel Ami, I had the enviable duty of representing Dartmouth friends in celebrating a beautiful day in the life of James and Marie-Christine."
Now is the time to include in your calendar the dates for our glorious 40th Reunion, June 10-13, 1996. Rosie and his stellar squad are already working hard on what will shape up to be the finest 40th ever!
As I write this column, the mortality of the class becomes more apparent every month; more news of the dead than the living gets to me as we reach the stage of our lives where age and the odds catch up with us and none of us know for sure how many more reunions are out there for us. So it becomes very important that we live life to the fullest, and one of the most pleasurable experiences for any of us these days is a reunion among old friends in the beautiful place that is Hanover in June. So get it on your calendar and plan to attend. You won't regret it, I guarantee.
As a case in point, three more classmates are no longer with us. Tom Kidd, Skip Dickerson, and Ed Ferguson have all passed on after full and active lives in Wyoming, Vermont, and New York, respectively. Tom was a lawyer, state representative, and judge; Skip taught English at the University of Vermont for 3 4 years; and I have no info on Ed someone please help me out.
