Maine, like the rest of the East Coast, had its share of cold, rain and heavy storms this summer, but the beautiful warm sunny days more than made up for it.

Rip's 100 th was celebrated in Hanover, on Cape Cod and three times by different groups at Moosehead during the summer. Family and friends gathered, and the "Birthday Boy" as well as everyone else enjoyed it all.

From January through March of this year Dartmouth received from the estate of Dick and Katie Black $1,067,740.09 in addition to the many generous gifts they gave during their lives.

We also learned that the family of John Parker has established a scholarship fund in his memory Johns two sons and two grandsons graduated from Dartmouth as well.

It was with sadness we heard of the death of Herb Bissell. By telephone he and Rip would compare notes on their upcoming 100th, and Herb died just weeks before his birthday. We have fond memories of times with him and Marge, and Rip will miss their phone visits. Our sympathy goes out to the family.

Rip says:

"Rip's turn of the century seems like last month He says he's approaching his Hundred and oneth."
