You sure can't go for long on the East Coast without bumping into Dartmouth types. I was at a party in Philadelphia recently with bunch of doctors, thinking I wouldn't know anybody. But sure enough, I ran into Peter Langmuir, who is now working as a pediatrician at University of Pennsylvania Hospital.
I also recently ran into Paul Cachion, who organized a Dartmouth mini-reunion along with some '91s. He's working at the Franklin Mint in the Philadelphia area. In planning the get-together Paul had the good judgment to select a local watering hole that was two blocks from my apartment.
Adrian Block has left a banking job in New York for another job in the same field in Chicago. He's at Bank of America, Illinois, selling the bank to middle-market companies. What this means, I'm not sure exactly, but Adrian says, "It's a great bank and I work with cool people."
Back to the East Coast, Michael Badger was recently admitted to the Virginia State Bar. He's an attorney for the Whitman Walker Clinic in Arlington. Alike Gildersleeve got married June 10 to Hanover native Lynn-Marie Casey. Mike works at True Basics in West Lebanon, and is finishing up his master's in computer science at the University of New Hampshire. The newlyweds live in Dover, N.H.
From the "Thank God I'm a Guy" department: Amy Beard Vachris gave birth earlier this summer to Madison Elizabeth Vachris ("Maddie") after a wrenching 21 hours of labor. She claims to have forgotten most of it already. I'm skeptical. In any case, the baby is about the cutest I've ever seen. Amy and her husband Dave Vachris spent some time in Maine before returning for the school year at Blair Academy, the boarding school where they teach.
Speaking of teachers, Derek Emous is now happily wedded to Dawn Karr, an elementary school teacher in the Chattanooga area. The fun-filled nuptial weekend (July 1) drew a big Dartmouth crowd, including DerekKamper, Kurt Moser, Linda Kelly, and Eric Zaslow. Among the activities were frisbee-throwing in the reception hall and a trip to the baseball batting cages. The new couple has wasted no time in getting settled, having already purchased a house in Ringgold, Ga., complete with a basketball hoop and numerous guest rooms.
And finally, I have a bone to pick with Jill Schoenberg, wherever she may be. Jill occasionally edited my stories at the Daily D, and she was horrified to learn that I didn't know the cardinal rule about splitting infinitives. Well, Jill, I give you no less an authority than columnist James Kilpatrick, who recently wrote that it is okay to occasionally bend this rule. So there. (Write with your news, Jill!)
Thanks for all your news, classmates. Send more to Jeanne DeSa at 2930 Upton St., Washington, D.C., 20008, or to me.
