As I begin this assignment as your class secretary I believe it is appropriate to express our appreciation for the manner in which Charlie Cusack has fulfilled the responsibilities of this position. Taking over upon the untimely death of BinneyTower three years ago, Charlie has performed a difficult task well, and in doing so earned our gratitude and great respect. He and Barbara have our sincere good wishes.
Charlie and Barbara traveled east in October to escort a grandson on a tour of eastern college campuses and to participate in the fall mini-reunion. Charlie writes that when passing through Ithaca, N.Y., he talked with JohnReps, who was a member of the architectural teaching staff at Cornell. John continues to maintain a campus office. Charlie also contacted Doug Kipp while in the Wolfeboro, N.H., area. He advises that Doug has retired from the practice of dentistry. According to Charlie's notes his efforts to talk with BillWoythaler in Peru, N.Y., led only to an extensive conversation with Bill's answering machine. How's that?
Again from their October visit, Charlie and Barbara report that they enjoyed a gourmet lunch and great reminiscences with Sewardand Marlene Mac Donald at their beautiful home in Slingerlands, N.Y. Seward suffered a stroke in 1993 but is making good progress toward a full recovery. He is looking forward to traveling west next June to visit brother Ken '50 in the San Francisco Bay area. The MacDonalds recently razed and rebuilt their longtime family summer home on the shores of Lake Champlain at North Hero, Vt., where they boat, fish, and relax.
Charlie thoughtfully forwarded SmedWard's letter in which Smed notes that he and Allie, together with Phil and VickieBowie, fished the Miramichi River in New Brunswick last August. Smed hooked and released 37 salmon over a seven-day period. This mere spin-caster never fails to be both impressed and intimidated by the skill and knowledge exhibited by the fly-fisherman.
Be assured of the interest of all our classmates in news of your activities. I urge you to share this news with them through this column. Be assured also of my best effort, and be careful out there!
