FRESHMAN FALL, I signed up for Intro to Neurosciences, taught by professors Culp, Leaton, Reeves, and Velez. It was at the ungodly hour of nine in the morning. We were all pretty sleepy on the first day. We didn't pay much attention when Robert Leaton walked into Rocky 1 with a big white plastic bucket full of sloshy liquid and a Dining Services tray. Or when he pulled on a pair of plastic gloves. People only opened their eyes when he reached into the bucket, pulled out a hunk of gray mass, and slapped it onto the dark green tray. "This," he said in his first words to us, "is a human brain."
