BRUCE PIPES taught the honors sections of introductory physics during the mid-seventies. Bruce was an inspirational sort of person in the classroom, who invited hard work but was also somewhat mischievous. For instance, on one exam, he included a question (facetious, and not for credit, as it turned out): "If rain is falling, and you need to get from Wilder to Thayer Hall, how fast do you have to run in order not to get wet?" Most students took the question in the spirit with which it was intended. (I took it seriously, to my chagrin.)
I'm on my way to Thayer, I'm on myway to Thayer...
