59 Let me say again how pleased we are to have Dr. C. Everett Koop '37 as our keynote speaker for the reunion and Thad Seymour '49A—the illustrious dean during our days on the Hanover Plain and now professor of English and past president of Rollins College—as moderator of an intriguing panel discussion on involvement, education, and leadership.
Then we have some notable classmates joining us: Dave Gavitt will be the master of ceremonies at our class dinner. In addition to his delightful banter and quips, he will share his enthusiasm for his new role with the NCAA Foundation—an effort that has similarities to our pending class project. We will also be holding a firstever post-graduation reunion of The Sultans, the campus jazz group including Jack Lindsay, Mike Melvoin,Sam Swansen, and Harry Washburn. They are ready to jam!
We've tried to accommodate you if it's difficult for you to stay all four days by offering a reasonable rate structure. As I said last month: 'Tis afar better thing to have been there for one or two daysthan not to have been there at all!
Speaking of being there, Karl Holtzschue spent two weeks this winter in Moscow, Prague, Budapest, and Vienna as a faculty advisor to Columbia Business School students. "Things in Moscow are bad," Karl says, "but the others are looking up." Also, the second edition of his book for Practicing Law Institute, titled Holtzschue on Real Estate Contracts, has recently been published. He told his mother, "That's like having your name above the title of the movie!" As you may know, Karl is heading die class's new project initiative and welcomes your ideas as well as attendance at the reunion to discuss it farther.
The Dayton (Ohio) Daily News cited AveryAllen for the professional advice he offers firstyear employees—advice that has relevance to our pending class project. When asked if he has a mentor in business, he replied, "No. I had one (my boss) about 25 years ago. He pointed out my mistakes and encouraged me. I absolutely recommend finding a mentor." Avery has been with the Huntington National Bank in Dayton for ten years.
The American Geological Institute has named Sam Adams as its 1995 president. Sam is a consulting geologist in Lincoln, N.H., and previously headed the department of geology at the Colorado School of Mines and last year was the president of the Society of Economic Geologists. You will see Sam and his wife, Nancy, at the reunion, when he will happily share his theory on the credibility of Dartmouth alums having "the granite of New Hampshire in their muscles and their brains."
Did you know that Donald H. Gilden, a neurologist practicing at the University Hospital in Denver, is listed in The Best Doctors in America for his involvement with infectious and demyelinating diseases? Don, hop on a plane, come to the reunion, and tell us more about your level of involvement.
And we hope you will be there, too. Here's to a great summer!
