We're getting closer to our 35th. Remember to send your green cards in or call/fax (603) 795-2888/795-2890.
Jim Longcope, a psychiatrist and a 25-year member of the Emerson Hospital in Concord, Mass., has now added board certification in geriatric psychiatry. I guess he's getting too many calls from his old classmates and decided to learn how to deal with them. Jim, you gotta come to the reunion. We really need your help!
Last fall the trade journal Automotive News published an article about how the U.S. government is giving subpoenas to current and past presidents of the National Automobile Dealers Association. Our classmate Jim Lust was the 1993 president of NAD A. About the investigation, Jim is quoted as saying (probably with his classic smile on his face), "It's a very large fishing expedition. They're asking for any correspondence regarding value pricing, holdbacks, and any type of pricing." Jim is a successful owner of automobile dealerships in the West and has just acquired an electric company. Ah, the entrepreneurial spirit never dies! Congratulations, Jim.
Bill Morton and Jerry Wunderlich were recently back in Hanover for a Theta Delt reunion.
Randy Malin,in addition to some reunion committee responsibilities, has formed his own airline-consulting business in Virginia which is already flourishing. His many years of experience with American and US Air and his considerable skills may help those grounded commuter airlines get flying again!
For those of you close to the sports world, I'm sure you've read about Dave Gavitt and his plans to join the NCAA Foundation on June 1, just before our reunion. Dave's career in the world of basketball is one to be admired. He took Providence College to national prominence. He coached in the Final Four. He created the Big East program and turned it into a powerhouse. He almost single-handedly created "March Madness" in college basketball. He coached an Olympic team. Then, he became CEO of the Boston Celtics five years ago when the organization was in a very difficult transition period. As Dave has said, "In my heart, I know we did a good job." Best of luck, Dave, in your new position. The reward of helping young athletes will be great and deserved.
Finally, a note from Phoebe Shaw. She offered her thanks to the class by writing, "Harry loved Dartmouth so, and he would be so pleased that you all have rallied around him. Hats off to the wonderful '59ers."
It's in that spirit that we look forward to a fun, exciting, and uplifting reunion in which we will learn more about "being involved." See you there.
Keep the cards and letters coming. We want to share your news.
