At long last, the curtaincall on my service as class secretary. The reunion was a tremendous success, and with the assistance of Grecian Formula, foil treatments, a few dabs of wrinkle cream, and a little liposuction, everyone looked, by and large, the same.

Rather than stealing the thunder from my successors, I will leave untouched the gossip disseminated in Hanover and focus instead on my usual press clippings and correspondence.

Bill McNabb has been promoted to senior vice president at the Vanguard Group of investment companies in Valley Forge, Pa.

John Gilbertson has joined Smith Barney Inc. as a managing director and head of the firm's Midwestern investment-banking business. His goal is to establish a local investment-banking presence for Smith Barney in Chicago. John previously was a vice president in the Chicago office of Goldman, Sachs, which he joined in 1987 after three years at Morgan Stanley.
