Just returned from Atlanta and two incredibly exciting weeks at the Olympics. One small bomb and packed subway trains made me feel like I never left New York. The major difference was that the people attached to the elbows co-existing with my ribs were nice and friendly. I did manage to get to Centennial Park before I left and came upon the bricks, then the section of bricks donated by "100 Black Men," and soon found one donated by Jesse Spikes. Now I'm sure that Jesse and I were in Olympic Stadium for at least one of the track and field sessions. Also saw a lot of swimming, but tickets and transportation to rowing were too difficult to get (my apologies to Charlie Nearburg).

Speaking of difficult, I understand it is really tough for some people to use that address at the end of the column to send me notes. I guess it is also easier for some classmates who do not know me to just send it to the College and let them forward

it (that's OK). So it was not surprising to get a cover letter addressed to the alumni magazine accompanied by a press release from a classmate named Ralph Child. Ralph was a partner at Palmer & Dodge in Boston and is now general counsel for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, where he will oversee the office of enforcement

and the environmental strike force (for stealth attacks on flatulent codfish, no doubt). Ralph wrote to the alumni mag: "...and arrange for a squib in the Class Notes." I guess that makes me the squibber. Now I knew a Ralph Child at Dartmouth (coincidental, I think not). Lived twenty feet away in the Al Potato house. Borrowed my "Three Dog Night" album. Why wouldn't Ralph send me the note directly? Was it the piece my co-editor Mike Sack wrote about Ralph in the newsletter ten years ago or does Ralph still have my album? I wonder...

Speaking of Mike Sack, we had a roommate reunion of sorts with Steve Shirey in Maryland. The update on Steve (Flea?) is that post-doc Rock was seen wearing a Pluto Express T-shirt and reports that wife Lauretta and sons Steven, 5, and Clayton, 2, are doing well. He runs and in-line skates on weekends to stay in shape and from the looks of it can still do a nice job of trashing on a run. He may well turn out to be my source of info once I'm ready to start surfing the 'Net.

Gobble, gobble and eight more shopping months to Reunion.
