Roy Duckworth called to tell me that grandaughter one, Heather '98, has been elected cocaptain of the woman's squash team and that graddaughter two, Gret, (yes that's her name!) is now a member of the class of 2000.
During the summer, a letter sent by the Green Key Society to the parents of all incoming students offered a class numeral letter for sale.. .on the order form was a picture of four '38ers proudly wearing their 1938 sweaters and beanies.
This distiguished group included Howie Rea, Bob Foley, Bob Archibald, and George Kingsbury. As for Roy, he has just completed another round of chemotherapy treatments and is slowly getting back to normal.
Jim Miller wrote letting me know ot the loss of his dear wife, Betty, last May. Betty was a fine lady, well known to many '38ers due to her faithful attendance at our minireunions even though not in the best of health. Fred Pickering also lost his wife, Lise, in August. Our sympathy to both Jim and Fred.
As promised, the '38 golfers held their "last hurrah" at the Country Club ot Greenfield, Mass., hosted by Luke Nims in mid-August.
A gathering of 11 to 12 golfers and one gallery member enjoyed a delicious runcheon followed by an afternoon of chasing the little white ball under warm, azure skies.
The low net scores were turned in by Dick Holt, Bob Jones, and Parker Holden. In addition to those three and yours truly, the following enjoyed the golf: Bud Lynch, Bob Reno, Bill Mosenthal, Fred Pickering, Charlie Hitchcock, Henry McDuff, Ben Walkley, and Luke Nims.
Kix Russell, Jack Russell's wife, is well on her way to a complete recovery from a total hip replacement.
It's rather hard for me to believe, as I write this weeks in advance, that it is time for Jean and I to send our very best wishes for a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.
