Remember the fall colors around Hanover? Well, I the autumn has been spectacular this year. If you haven't been back in many years, and you can't wait until our 3Oth, book a room at the Inn for you and your significant other and enjoy the scenery.
There's a lot of news this month. Star Johnson wants to remind everyone that there will be a tailgating party at the Princeton game (we'll gather in the parking lot in front of the Observatory). I know the new class officers promised caviar and champagne but I've been asked to tell you to bring your own hot dogs and brewski.
Don McMannis is a child psychologist living in Santa Barbara with his wife, Debra, and two boys, Sean and Cree. When asked what he was up to, his first words were, "We're going to blow Barnie out of the water." It happens that Don and classmate John Lugar (who helped produce China Beach and movies for ABC) are collaborating on a new children's TV show featuring animal characters that he promises will be "educational and entertaining." All other information is top secret at the present but they're looking for investors who want to get in on the ground floor (hint?). Tack Burbank reports he's living a very fulfilling life in the Berkshires. with wife Christine and daughter Maggie while his older daughter Liza is studying in San Francisco. As a result of a close friend's experience with cancer, Tack reevaluated his life, quit as the senior partner of a major law firm, and began his own legal mediation service company, which he loves. Tack and his family live in a converted barn on top of a hill with a gorgeous view. He remains very close friends with Alpha Theta roommates Steve "But" Dagirmanjian and Cleve Penberthy. He notes that everything changes with age and confided that "both of my roommates are going bald and are sensitive about it." I promised I would respect his wishes not to divulge this, so I am only going to report that Bud is a psychologist in Woodstock, N.Y., where he lives with his wife Judy and their two boys, Sam and Jacob. Cleve, his wife Brit and three children now live in Spokane, Wash., where he continues his career as a forward-looking educator and high school principal. Tack also reports that Al Mulley is chief of internal medicine at Mass. General in Boston.
I also talked with Stan Phaneuf who has been very busy as a professional photographer of horses in Orleans, Vt., for the past 20 years (prior to that he was a ski photographer in Killingon). I discovered that this passion for photography began during his freshman year. His avocation is rock climbing (he's even taught his daughter Victoria the sport) and he says he welcomes any of us to visit and climb with him. Other reports have come in saying that Stephen Stonefield has joined CS First Boston as chairman of CS First Boston Pacific, and is responsible for the international investment bank's strategy in the Asia Pacific. Bill Flaherty was recently named vice president of finance and chief financial officer of Avid Technology, the maker of digital products used in making films. From California there is news that Peter Logan has been named chair of his San Francisco law firm's liability and insurance defense group, and from New Hampshire comes a report that George Roussos is among the top five lobbyists at the statehouse in Concord representing clients in health care and education. Good oF Tom Quinn is organizing a class e-mail directory; you can e-mail him at , so join now.
If you have time drop a line to Tom Avery, our former fearless class secretary, who has not been feeling well lately. Send him a card at 504 Hammon Court, Patterson, CA 95363. I'm off to Vietnam in the morning where I'm back and forth helping to set up their nationwide youth AIDS prevention program. Don't be shy guys: write, call, or e-mail. I thrive on class news. L&F: Tack Burbank says "hello to Bruce Saylor" and is curious as to what he's up t0...50 Bruce, what's up?
