Last fall's Homecoming and class meeting was a great success as reported last month. Nels Armstrong, the new director of alumni relations, spoke to us. Nels sent the regards of David Orr, who he is keeping so extra busy that we did not see him all weekend. He also sent the greetings of the President, who had been in Cambridge on sabbatical and is happily back in Hanover and likes the pace of the North Country better than urban America.

Nels feels one of his prime focus efforts will be to do a better job of bringing in current students (future alums) and getting them involved with older alums and doing this connection through the computer. Everyone at Dartmouth is plugged into e-mail and while no one answers their phone, they do answer their e-mail. Nels is hoping to figure a way to make this an interactive process with alumni, both young and old, possibly through various home pages and by matching older and younger classes with similar interests and ideas.

Steve Wilson, who is our scholarship student, is now a senior. He stated that he's really going to miss Dartmouth. It has been a growing experience for him. He stated that his goal, what he came to Dartmouth for, was to gain an intelligent and informed perspective on life and he feels that he's gained that.

Have we all achieved as much? It's very rewarding to have a scholarship student and our fund is now on the way toward $100,000, at which time we can have two scholarship students. Consider the scholarship fund when making your gifts to Dartmouth. Talk with Dan Goggin if you want to make a special gift.

Another news item...Joe Stevenson has agreed to the task of serving as our Reunion giving chairman. Joe has an exceptional record not only with our class but with the College and in his professional work with the Boston Symphony and now with the Curtis School of Music in Philadelphia. Thank you very much, Joe.

Jack Cramer was voted a class award of merit for his outstanding work as our head agent for the last seven years. Jack couldn't be at Homecoming but the award will be presented to him at the meeting of the Dartmouth Club of Cape Cod, where Jack is now an officer.

There followed a discussion of the class award—should it be annual? Should it include activities other than work for the class? We agreed to form a class awards committee and would further consider the idea of two separate awards—one for efforts on behalf of our class and one for outstanding life accomplishments.

Our 40th Reunion is scheduled as a midweek Reunion. We'd like some feedback from each of you. Our desire would be to try to get it moved to a weekend so that more could participate. This may be a lost cause but Clark Griffiths agreed to try to change it and will talk to Nels Armstrong.
