As the summer approaches, I am finishing up my research into the members of our class who spent their freshman year in Cohen Hall. Starting out in the West, Ted Ashton is the general manager of Trustco, an insurance company in Salt Lake City, while Bob Fell (Santa Barbara, Calif.) is in the advertising business in Los Angeles. Also out West, FrankHerringer (Piedmont, Calif.) is president of Transamerica Inc. in San Francisco and JimGoodman (Phoenix, Ariz.), after 25 years in the clothing business, is now an independent real-estate consultant specializing in the analysis of commercial leases. From Seattle BruceCross reports that he has been with Perkins Coie, a law firm specializing in labor and employment matters, since 1968 and is now a partner.

In the Midwest, Jim Miller (Apple Valley, Minn.) is the vice president of organizational consulting and research for Questar Data Systems in St. Paul. Moving to the East Coast, we find Tom Rand and Hal Rabner, who are practicing law. Hal, who was my predecessor as class secretary, is living in Montclair, N.J., and is active in a variety of Dartmouth activities including enrollment work. Tom has become a bit of a Yankee (at least geographically) and is living and practicing in Bethesda, Md. Moving closer to New York, I found JeffShendell (North Stanford, Conn.) and Paul Brown (New Paltz, N.Y.). Paul is the president of Institutional Design Associates, a small boutique consulting firm specializing in human-factors research, while Jeff is a vice president with Liz Claiborne Inc. and speaks with great pride of the development of the young employees that pass through his training courses. Finally, in the Southeast, with the help of Chris Palmer, I was able to locate our class bon vivant and publishing entrepreneur, Bob Cahners. It seems that Bob has moved his base of operations to Naples, Fla., and is rumored to be practicing to join the (very) senior PGA tour. As the summer begins and you all head out to the tee, courts, beaches, or back to the office; please take a moment to send me an e-mail if you are on the Internet so I can add your address to my list. In addition, be sure to mark October 18-19, the dates of Dartmouth Night and our fall mini-reunion, on your calendar. Have a great summer and I hope to see a large number of you in Hanover in October.
