A reminder: Our fall mini-reunion at Hanover will be held this year on the weekend of the Cornell game, October 3-5. Bob andPauline Field have again assembled a superlative program. Come see! Jimmy Stewart, whose death occurred recently, celebrated his 89th birthday on May 20, inspiring an article of that date in the WSJ. This article moved Derek Van Quackenbush to write to WSJ to relate the kindness of Jimmy Stewart to Derek's cousin, who flew with Stewart and who lost his life in WW II. In an act typical of the man, he gave Derek's cousin his wrist- watch as a memento. We're indebted to the ever-alert and ever-faithful Charlie Donovan for this. The team of Barnum and Keefe advises that Jim Gilfillan recently worked with Dave Haraway '77 at the College's trust and bequest office to add to a life income trust previously established. Jim was particularly impressed with Dave's gracious and competent assistance. Quite understandable since he is the nephew (in law) of Don Crance. Varnum "Farmer" Mead drew a chuckle when he contacted this perennial procrastinator as Alumni Fund class agent with: "Again it's that time of year when those that are supposed to have are supposed to give!" Farmer went on to relate his efforts to contribute to improving the quality of life on Martha's Vineyard as a member of the local Preservation Trust working with various town governments on the island. He and Jan rub elbows with the likes of Walter Cronkite, Mike Wallace, Alan Dirshowitz, Art Buchwald, and others. BobBarnum, in the course of a conversation which disclosed the fact that we both served in the "small ship" navy in WW II, told me of the Patrol Craft Sailors Association, representing those who served in PC, SC, PCS.
