When you read this our minireunion will have come and gone, and I hope will have been a huge success. The magazine has decided that what we scribes write in November should pertain to athletics. So—doings at our "mini" will have to be reported at a later date. In my last column I told of unsuccessful efforts to reach several. Well, being the persistent type, I tried again. John Potter: He's still in Rumford, R.I., and now fully retired. Keeps busy playing golf and duplicate bridge. Didn't inquire as to scores. Afraid I'd mix them up. The big news is that he and Joan celebrated 50 years of marriage on September 20. Congrats to both of you. Jim Heller: I didn't get to talk to Jim because he was up at the Mayo Clinic getting his yearly okay. But wife Avis gave me all the news. Jim's busy in his lumber business in Florida, Georgia, and Wisconsin. No, he doesn't have stores thereforests! And Avis was about to leave for a five-week safari in the wilds of Africa. BertIbelle: Bert's still in Old Lyme, Conn. Retired way back in '89. Had been head of a big psychology group in Hartford. Bert keeps busy with gardening and golf. In November, he and wife Mary will be off to the Middle East for a vacation. We shall keep a careful eye on that area. Dr. Milt Cooper: I'm afraid I wear Milt out every time we speak (or I do, mostly). We schmooze about the good old days. He's still working a bit. Chief of internal medicine at St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport, Conn. Still lives in Easton, Conn., and spends some time in the "other place" in Springfield, Vt. Both Milt's sons are Dartmouth grads; one's a physician in Connecticut, the other an attorney in Boston. Oh yes, Milt's still playing golf, and in a wave of charity and good will I refrained from inquiring about his scores. Again, Milt, thanks for all the conversation. The other classmate I had mentioned was RayHellmann. Here I must convey some sad news. I spoke to his wife, Anne, and learned that Ray had passed away August 10, 1997, after a long illness. Ray had been an architect, was retired and living in Reno, Nev. And a further sad note, Arthur Young died on August 23, 1997, following surgery for a brain tumor. A memorial service was held in Greenwich, Conn. Attending were WaltSnickenberger, Clark Judge, Gene Bokor, and I. Walt gave one of several moving eulogies. We extend our deepest sympathy to the Hellman and Young families.
