As the class prepares for its 70th Reunion June 68 it brought back memories of our four years at Dartmouth
Sept. 19, 1923: "Attention 1927. Freshman caps must be worn to the opening services in Webster Hall tomorrow morning and at all times thereafter."
At the convocation, President Ernest Martin Hopkins compliments the 596 members of 1927 on the quality and geographical spread of this, the second class admitted under the selective process. He urged diversity of thought and desire for truth in opening the 155th year of the College.
The class joined 427 seniors, 446 juniors, 468 sophomores, and one special for a total of 1,938, being within the 2,000 the College felt it could best accommodate.
The first clash between sophomores and freshmen occurred when a 1927 banner appeared on the campus flag pole. The ropes were tied up high above ground and the pole greased. The sophomores quickly secured an extension ladder and made a freshman loosen the ropes. And the banner was brought down in quick order.
