Kudos are in order for Holly Raths Hart and Leilani Crane for their superlative efforts on the class newsletter. I am both impressed with their ability to garner information from you all and dismayed that I may have to admit to my 11-year-old that e-mail and the Internet might find their way into our home.

One of the benefits of this job, though, is talking with classmates and their families. I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Julie Furnary about Tony and their family. Julie reports that Tony recently traveled to Asia to lecture on cardiomyoplasty, which is being introduced there. Tony and Julie live in Oregon with their three children, Alicia Rose 5 1/2, James 3 1/2, and 2-year-old Siobhan.

Carolyn Graff Wade is enjoying a peaceful existence in Eugene, Ore., with her husband, Pat, and their sons Tom, Pat and Chris. Carolyn is practicing bankrupt cy law as a partner with Muhlheim, Palmer, and Wade and happily reports that the only big changes in their lives are their new house and the addition of their dog Sereia.

Bruce Allyn made news in his hometown of Grants Pass, Ore., this past year when he spoke to an assembly of highschool students about college and career choices. Bruce urged the students to have faith in themselves and to put their hearts into whatever they choose to do. Bruce is program director of the Harvard-based Conflict Management Group and an adjunct fellow at the JFK School of Government. A specialist in US-Russian negotiations and conflict management, Bruce has published three works on the subject and co-created a 1992 symposium which simulated the events of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis (with Fidel Castro, Andrei Gromyko, and Robert McNamara among the participants). Understandably he has made Grants Pass High School proud.

Karen A. Abrams, M.D., has been named medical director at The Renfrew Center, a comprehensive women's mentalhealth facility located in Philadelphia. Karen is also in private practice and serves as a psychiatric consultant to The Beck Institute in Bala Cynwyd.

Merle Adelman reports that we are well on our way to exceeding our yearly Alumni Fund goal, pledging early and generously. Leadership dollars are up and though many have contributed at the $1,769-level, Merle has a thing for amounts of $1,980. A woman I can relate to, Merle says if you respond to the next mailing with either a pledge or a mailing, she won't interrupt your dinner, the kids' bathtime, or your nap with a phone call.
