It's never too late to sign up for and show up at our 50th fannual fall mini-reunion, October 2-4 in Hanover. Stan Barr lobster bash Thursday evening; dinner in Quechee Friday; tailgating and Big Green vs. Big Red (Cornell) football on the Saturday.
We usually attract 120 or so Old Faithfuls; why not gusher that up to 200 this year? Just give me a call and I'll forward...
Meanwhile, join me, please, in the loudest possible HUZZAH, for Pat and Bill Hale, who have endowed a 1944 professorship in their name at Dartmouth. The chair is in the humanities division, and its first incumbent, English professor William C. Spengemann, was approved by Trustee vote in April. "We wanted to return a favor to the College which has done so much for us," said Bill and Pat, "and we were fortunate enough to be in the position to endow this chair."
By the time you read this we hope to have made personal contact with one of our classmates who has been long (55 years long) among the missing, Murray Moses Mondschein. Through a series of circumstances involving, among others, Newc Eldridge '5O, Nelson Bryant '46, and Fritz Witzel we discovered that Murray was a sergeant in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy and that he has lived a good part of his life since then in Austria, married to an Austrian lady, and working as a manufacturer's rep for an American company. He is scheduled to be in New London, N.H., in August and we hope to rope him into our monthly '44 luncheon gathering. Stay tuned.
Nice chat with Harry Grieger, who says that he and wife Ginny are living the quiet life just up-river from Hanover in East Thetford, Vt. "A fair share of just piddling around on our eight acres," says Harry, "with added time at the computer doing odds and ends for a small company in Connecticut."
We caught Larry Farley on his birthday, June 16, watching the lobster boats coming into New Harbor, Maine, which has been the Farley retirement pad for the past 10 years. Along with boating, fishing, and gardening, Larry says he's very much into all aspects of the computer craze, but always with an eye on community affairs. He's been a member of the school board for that past year and a half, for example. "And my wife, Lee," he says modestly, "is the best cook in the United States."
Ab and Pat Davis divide their time between Jupiter, Fla. (golf a couple of times a week), and Madisoli, Conn, (where they have a condo and a boat). Once a week while in Florida Ab still tickles the keys (piano) as well as his fancy at a local watering hole.
Irish Ed Fitzgerald kindly corrects a typo in our May notes: Irish for "my darling" is "mavourneen," ending with an "n" not a "d."
Deaths as of mid-June: Randy Lomas in January, Al Myers in May, and the wives of Chuck Glines and Ham Bates. Our sympathies. An Allen Myers Memorial Scholarship Fund at Dartmouth has been set up and contributers should contact Melanie Norton, Scholarship Office, 63 S. Main St., Suite 6066, Hanover, NH 03755. That's it. Blessing.
