What a good Reunion! It was thought-provoking. It was fun. It was full of activity but left time to connect with each other, I'm sure those who came share my good feelings and for those who could not get to Hanover for our 40th, make your plans now for our 45 th. We climbed Mt. Moosilauke. We toured the College and caught up on its activity. We enjoyed a lobster bake at Occom Pond and the reunion of the Indian Chiefs at our tent and picnic. We struggled with the ethical issues of our time and we met as a class to carry on our tradition.
Clark Griffiths started our class meeting by reporting on highlights of his five years at president, reminding us that by attending we were constituted as the executive committee with fall voting authority. While thanking many who have helped our class, he singled out Jack Cramer, who acted as our head agent for seven years with distinction, Tom Schwartz for his record number of newsletters, and Monk Bancroft for his efforts as mini-reunion chairman.
I gave the secretary's report, my "swansong" for this post, which I have enjoyed and in which I know you will support my successor, Ted Jennings. Ted has good ideas for expanding our linkage with one another through use of the College computer system. I also spoke of a potential new class initiative, to link Dartmouth students to service projects with our favorite charities, which the class officers are exploring. (Please call or write me with your interest in this project.)
Hanny Mason reported that we have 400 dues-paying classmates and noted this is against our scoring base of 530, our mailing list of 650, and our original class size of 728. We have a positive cash balance and we moved, discussed, and voted to raise class dues to $50/year.
Bob Marchant reported for the reunion committee and thanked all members and particularly the Loveruds for their efforts as financial managers. Randy Aires reported that our reunion gift to Dartmouth would be $600,057. Highlights included: 1) we raised more than '56; b) we doubled our gift vs. our 35th Reunion; c) we have 99 leadership gifts, which i? very high compared to other classes; d) our participation rate is always good, we are number one in our group of classes; e) we beat our challenge gift from Lippincott, Eichler, and Hall. Randy thanked Joe Stevenson for the wonderful job he did leading this special campaign. Now is the time for one of you to come forward to become assistant head agent, work with Randy, and lastly take the reins of this most rewarding job. Please call and talk it over with Randy or me. Dave Cook has been named president elect of the Alumni Council. Congratulations! He also spoke with us as our bequests chair. Jack Hall, our class's latest recipient of the Alumni Award, headed the nominating committee. He proposed the following slate of officers: president, Dick Perkins; vice president, Randy Aires, Hanny Mason, and Monte Pascoe; treasurer, Jack Spring; secretary, Ted Jennings. The slate was voted. Appointed positions accepted are mini-reunions, Howie Howland, newsletter editor, Tom Schwartz; head agent, Randy Aires will continue on the basis of finding his successor; and bequest chair, Dave Cook. I'm looking forward to working with this great group and to continuing to build the fine camaraderie of our great class of '57.
