Thirty years ago: we became "upperclassmen," Dartmouth football rolled to an undefeated 9-0 season and the Lambert Trophy and 8.8. King rocked Homecoming. Some updates after the summer sojourn (so what did YOU do for the summer?): Seen at Stanford of late, Joel Hyatt, graduate school of business faculty member, continues to push the envelope. Russell Fink, vice president and general counsel and secretary of Tarmac America in Norfolk, a producer and supplier of heavy building materials, overhauled his offices' documents in a featured article he wrote. Russell concludes with these words of wisdom: "When you think you are better than the next person, you're usually fooling yourself. There is always someone out there willing to work longer and harder."
And from Bob Baird: "I, too, was intrigued by your 'where is Dave Knopman' bit in the column, so Ie-mailed my old swimming buddy. I received a response right away, we told a few anecdotes and then some weeks later I got a call from him from a hotel in downtown San Diego. He was at a neurological conference and wanted to check out how addled/pickled my brain was. He had about two hours to kill so I drove down, informing him he would recognize me as a bald, old and ugly guy wearing a white, short-sleeved shirt and jeans. We had a great time (at least I did, any way and I bought the beer) and solved most of the problems on the planet while we were at it. I drove him to his next engagement and left thinking how many truly superior people I had the pleasure of knowing at Camp Dartmouth." Bob continued: "In the past few months I also spoke to Jim Gottschalk and Fred Crossman. They called me up to give me some grief, I think it was. Regardless, it's always fun to speak to or to see old classmates. Maybe I should make a reunion in the next 20 years or so." That wraps it up for this month. Keep those e-mails and letters coming!
