At something like 63" Quent Kopp has always had a relatively high profile. A longtime career in California politics (that only new term-limits legislation could cut short) hasn't hurt. You might call Q a Roads Scholar, or maybe even a Traffic Kopp, what with his chairing the state senate's transportation committee. Recently he has championed a bill to selectively install video cameras at busy intersections in an effort to catch dangerous red-light runners, while at the same time he has vigorously opposed repeal of the state's motorcycle helmet law. Lame-duck Q says he will now have the time to attend the 50th next year, and endorses the Balsams rider as well. Nothing should interfere. Except that some West Coast wonks keep floating trial balloons that have the honorable Q running for mayor of San Francisco against the even higher-profile Willie Brown. In fact, Brown has challenged Quent to run against him, despite the fact that Q's polling positives are double his negatives, while incumbent Brown's negatives are actually higher than his positives.
Quent joins a growing list of announced attendees. When you get your reunion mailing, sign up! And return your form as instructed. But not to me. All I want is your question naire (frequently found in Skip Ungar's news letter) and your photo. Bollie Bollenbach sent in his photo, from his home in Jalisco, Mexico. Along with his address, Bollie's letterhead carries this homily/proverb: "Que bonitoes no hacer nada, y despues de no hacer nada, descansar." Translation: "If you have caught nothing but bonito, sing any- way." Ray Bankert is coming to the reunion. And Tom McManus. Add Dick Payne and Jack Martin, along with DekeJackson and Jim Mytton. I'd be willing to bet that Bill Chapman
will be here too. Bill, a born and bred New Englander, has been spending some time in the area recently digging into
family history—back to Danvers and Ipswich, c. 1634. Bradford,Vt., was also home to a lot of ancestors. Now, however, Bill lives in Winterville, N.C., which is not in New England.
Reminder: questionnaires and photographs are due by December 1. This
message applies to such shy '49ers as JohnAdler, John Whelden, John Rassias, and John Harder. Plus Bob Parsons,Bob MacArthur, Bob Schmitz, and BobAlden. Not to mention Bob Baum and Ted Baumann. John Daukas sent his questionnaire, but where's Paul's? Neither Arnold Kramer nor RichardKramer has come through. I trust that Millers Dana, Dean, John, and Richard are out there somewhere, getting geared up to return their questionnaires and photos. I'm short a few Smiths, too (you know who you are). Take the few minutes necessary to fill in the blanks. Thanks.
