Your home lives must be pretty awful! More of you miserable, suffering alumni escaped to Hanover than have for any 15th Reunion in Dartmouth history. Two hundred fifty members of the class of '82 sought refuge in Hanover the weekend of june 19-21. They begged, bribed, and conned 349 spouses and children into joining them. They traded in their macaroni and cheese and their corn dogs for chardonnay and lobster. They traded evenings of Thomas theTank Engine Sings Barney's Greatest Hits for nights of barley and revelry. They traded eight hours of sleep for three.
In addition to crushing all previous 15th-year reunion giving records by nearly two times, the class of '82 also shattered all 15th-year reunion attendance totals with 599 attendees (vs. 526 from class of '80) and 250 alums (vs. 242, also '80's). Big hats off to Linda Bornhuetter Gridley and to everyone on the reunion committee for what was also undoubtedly one of the most fun and best organized reunions ever. The weekend included three Moosilauke trips, great bands Friday and Saturday evenings, a thought-provoking symposium, tennis and golf between cloudbursts, a well-intentioned disgruntled spouse wine-tasting, three-pound lobsters Saturday night, limitless food and alcohol, and an extremely user-friendly kid camp. Was there an alumni run in there somewhere? The '82s traveled from as far away as Turkey, Israel, and Hawaii and from as near as Hanover Norwich, and Thetford.
While on the Hanover Plain, we witnessed a peaceful transition from one '82 regime to the next. The administration of Mary Thomson Renner graciously handed the orb of power to new president Tom Daniels and his band of misfits, misanthropes, and miscreants. The new officers, with the now obvious exceptions of the class secretaries, are a promising group. They are: vice president Emily Bakemeier; treasurer Alison Schmultz Burns; secretaries Mark Soane and Rick Bercuvitz; Alumni Council rep. Linda Bornhuetter Gridley; newsletter editor Bernie Thompson; head agents John Moscarino and Donna Halverstadt; projects chair Jean-Baptiste Burack; minireunion chairs Amy Warner and Sally Adnopoz Gendler; executive committee members Barb Allen, Tee Lotson, Laura Murray Dobbin, Stephan Dweck, Mike Sapers, Sara Riddle Lilja, Sandy Kelsey, Jeff Newman, Martha Solis-Turner, John Tex" Strawn, Mike Moldaver, Gray Horan, Miguel Kamat, David Eichman, Mary Conway, Jenny Chandler Hauge, John "Arthur" Froemming, Betsy Leggat, J.J. Hanley Mlynarski, Barry Caldwell, Mary Thomson Renner, Woody Kingman, Steve Whitely, Corrine Heyes, Ralph McDevitt, Julie Browning.
Our sincere thanks to the outgoing officers for a job well done and to outgoing secretaries Philippa Guthrie and GeorgeThompson for five years of news, entertainment, and our names in bold. Your new class secretaries have high hopes for the next five years and hope you'll join us for the ride. Projects that we're contemplating include a class website complete with bulletin boards, class newsmakers page, business networking page, photos, and a "Where are they now?" section of the alumni notes organized according to freshman-year dorms. WE NEED YOUR HELP AND PARTICIPATION! Please contact us if you would like to serve as the first-ever class of '82 webmaster or if you would like to help round up information on your freshman-year dorm-mates. Please drop us a line telling us what's going on in your lives! We'll make every effort to include your message. We are at your disposal 24/7 (yeah, right!) and can be reached at:
