I received a news article indicating that the artworks of Vining Sherman were being exhibited in the Vero Beach, Fla., Club. It also tells of a meeting that Sherm had with Ernest Hemingway while fishing in the ocean off Key West, and with Mother Teresa in her home in Bombay. "The hallways of his residence at Indian River Estates, Fla., are lined with paintings of his past, and an auditorium wall in the Estates is filled with huge murals that are painted collages of his memories of travel through rural India for seven months during 1989." The memories he brought back fill two-by-eight murals and an eight-by-eight panel. A portrait of Mother Teresa is one of the largest images "She was a small woman with a large presence."

At reunion Jim Yankauer presented the class with two bound volumes of The Daily Dartmouth he had accumulated over his years in Hanover. They dated from Sept. 3, 1936 to June 30, 1938. I have them here, and, should any of you want to relive a little history, let me know, and I'll do the researching. I plan to use them to fill my column when your news is lacking.

And while on the subject of the Reunion, I want to thank you all for the gift of the Dartmouth chair given to me at the class meeting. It is in my living room, and I try to sit in it for a few minutes each day. It is a gift with a lot of meaning! Bob Reeve, our retiring president, was presented with a sterling silver bowl marking his many years of thoughtful sendee. And if you reunioners are having difficulty in identifying some of your classmates in the class picture, and would like to do so, let me know, and I'll send you a complete list identified by rows.

This, again, will answer your many questions regarding the number of classmates still around. As of June 29, 1998, there were 271 present and accounted for. Since then, however, Bob Reno, A1 Brown, and Athy Fuller have left us.

A closing thought If you find a path with no obstacles, it is probably a path that does not lead anywhere!
