After 17 years with Marketing Corp. of America, Warren Dechter has started his own marketing and consulting firm called the Onyx Consulting Partnership. Onyx works exclusively with private equity ("buy-out") and venture capital firms and their portfolio companies. Warren says he is divorced, has a 19-year-old daughter at Tufts, and is looking forward to what this next phase of life will bring.
Is this the year of the locust? After 17 years in private practice as an orthopedic surgeon, Charles W. "Mike" Miller, M.D., has returned to the University of Virginia as a professor of orthopedic surgery. His leisure time activities include gardening, golfing, and flying. Mike resides in Charlottesville, Va., with his wife of 35 years, Derry. They occasionally visit their summer home in northern Ontario. Mike and Derry have enjoyed rekindling their friendship with Hank Greer '60 and his wife, Laurel. Mike is proud of daughter Heather Miller Coons '91, who teaches in New York City, and of son Sean (Denison '95), who works in Palm Beach, Fla.
Speaking of doctors, Don Abel, M.D., wrote a guest column in the May 7, 1997, issue of the Northampton, Mass., DailyHampshire Gazette. He wrote about what it has meant for the Cooley Dickinson Hospital to maintain the high quality of its medical care and the wide scope of its medical services over the years: "Our intensive care unit and coronary care unit presently are being upgraded and the new addition will contain a new childbirth center which should be the envy of the [Pioneer] Valley. We just added a new linear accelerator to our radiation therapy department. We have a new CAT scanner. Our hospital will remain state-of-the-art for a community of this size."
Congratulations to Si Ford and wife Vicki! Both were honored by the Bronxville (N.Y.) Republican Club, for making significant contributions to the community through civic and volunteer activity.
The University of North Carolina Press announced back in June that it was publishing The Nature of North Carolina 's Southern-Coast: Barrier Islands, Coastal Waters, andWetlands, written by Dirk Frankenberg. Dirk, I don't know if you knew of the work of classmate and photographer Bob Perron, but you might be interested in his work and he yours, as he has photographed architecture and nature mostly coastal subjects shot from small airplanes for publications in books and magazines.
Former class president Jack Nason and wife Laura have exchanged their huge restored farmhouse in Bucks County, Penn. for a slightly smaller residence in New Hope, Penn.
Bob Davidow , an attorney and former law professor, is attending the University of Chicago Divinity School and working parttime as a prison chaplain. He reports that his daughter graduated from medical school at the University of Michigan last June and that his son attends the University of North Carolina.
