Turned 40 amidst the splendor of the Sierra Buttes last week. Finally! Historic gold country. Pure alpine beauty. A blue-green tiara of sapphire lakes encrusted in a setting of granite grandeur, framed by pine, fir, and cedar scented forests was my playground for a long weekend. A time I'll never forget! Mosdy I'm grateful to finally be catching up to the rest of you all. The anticipation was killing me.
Our fall mini-reunions were big fun for all those who participated. Our ever-faithful chairman, L. Philip Odence reported: The PennBQue was a big success, according to fetching hostess, Carol Neitz. CynthiaRicks, Pat Pannell Edokwe, Helen Davis Picher, and Maurice Simmons joined Carol along with a host of kids, spouses, and friends. Carol had so much fun that she'll be renting out La Bee fin next time around. Many thanks Carol!
During Homecoming (Harvard) weekend we killed 'em at the parade, with six classmates participating. A new record! Marching were Liz "of Course" Proctor Gray,Eleanor Shannon Salem, John Currier, Phil Odence, and Rueben Stokes (who looked great after a week of RVing around New England). Jim Eden and Mike Geilich were on the sidelines cheering us on.
The BBQ was also a great success. John Currier, Nancy Schwartzman Malmquist, and "Ugly Joe" Henley all enjoyed halftime beers and dogs at Phil O's tailgate. JeffGreene and Carl Briscoe also cruised by.
Kathy Fraser penned a touching note from her home in Albuquerque, N.M. Kathy has worked as a psychiatrist since finishing her residency in 1989 (DMS '85) in Albuquerque for almost four years at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. Sure could use her expertise every now and then! "I remarried in 1994 to Andy Hiett and we have a wonderful 1-year-old son, baby Tom. I work out of the house half time now, as my husband's job involves a lot of travel out of state, but fulltime at home, as all the other parents out there know! New Mexico is a beautiful state with all the outdoor activities we like, hiking, skiing, etc. and I've had a lot of opportunities to use my Spanish, originally learned in Dartmouth's LSA and FSA Mexico programs. I would love to hear from friends from undergraduate years!" Track Kathy down through the dept. of psychiatry at UNM-HSC, 2400 Tucker NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. Great to hear from you Kathy! And thanks to you I now know how to spell Albuquerque without even flinching...
And from our ever-beloved Ken Beer: "I figured it's time for me to send a little info for y'all to put into the Class Notes. Unfortunately I haven't seen too many Dartmouth '79s around the streets of New Orleans lately (despite the fact that the police warrants against you two have long since expired after our wedding over 15 years ago!) Things are going well for the Beer family. Kingsley (age 9) and Megan (age 7) are involved in baseball, swimming, soccer, tennis, pottery all in an attempt by me to keep them away from boys until they're 35 (the alternative is a cloistered convent which is only a few miles from our house.) Margaret is working parttime as the marketing director for a C.P.A. firm and swims every morning at 5:30 a.m. (Yeah, it makes me sick too I can't even work the TV remote control at 5:30 a.m.) I am a partner with a regional investment-banking firm Johnson, Rice & Co. where I provide investment advice/analysis on publicly traded energy companies. I feel a little bad because my energy stocks perform the best when it's freezing cold in Chicago, Boston, and New York, when war breaks out in the Middle East, or when nuclear facilities go on the blink. (They call me Mr. Happy around the office.) My travels have not quite made it out to Manhattan, Kansas, where Professor Chip Debelius resides, but I sure can't wait to see Denebs (and Toto too.) It's getting late Margaret will be up in a few hours to go swimming. Hope all is well with you two stay in touch."
Thanks for listening. Don't be shy. Drop us a line, or two.
