I received a clipping about Faith Rivers, who is the executive director of the Williamsburg (S.C.) Enterprise Community Commission. Last spring she completed a course of study at the South Carolina Economic Developers School of the University of Charleston. Rivers is a native of Charleston and was the first African- American woman to graduate from that city's Porter-Gaud School. Peter Panagos has also been in the news. He serves in the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit of the U.S. Marine Corps and recently participated in Exercise Cobra Gold, a three-week exercise which included amphibious landings along the coast of Thailand and flight operations from the aircraft carrier USS Independence. Pete's unit is an expeditionary intervention force with the ability to rapidly organize for combat operations in virtually any environment. While in Thailand the unit also engaged in an ambitious community relations project at a school for the handicapped. They removed several tons of concrete rubble and painted the inside of the school auditorium. They were part of the largest group of volunteers to ever donate their time and energy to the school.

Looking for some light reading to take on your summer vacation? Mark Brzezinski has a new book out, The Struggle for Constitutionalism in Poland, published by St. Martin's Press. Mark is a political scientist and an attorney with Hogan & Hartson in Washington, and his new work has received high praise. Herman Schwartz, professor of law at American University, writes: "Brzezinski's path-breaking study of Poland's struggle for constitutionalism is a must for anyone concerned with how former Communist countries can become constitutional democracies. With a sensitivity to the historical and political settings, [his book is] an invaluable contribution."
