The 1927 class vice president, Robert L. Long, in his wheelchair, pushed by his sons Robert Jr. '56 and William '59, along with Roger Bury, '27 class president, pushed by his son Curtiss '53, led the commencement procession June 1997 at '27's 70th Reunion.

This marked the climax of the Reunion. Bob was blessed by the presence of his two sons and their families. A few weeks later Bob succumbed to pneumonia. Back to Manchester, Vt., came his sons and families, one from New York, the other from New Mexico, for the funeral. The class of '27 was represented by Roger Bury and wife Lolly and Alice Wormser.

Bob came to Dartmouth from Evander Childs High School in die Bronx and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Gam and with Dragon membership. Swimming, tennis, manager of the debate team, and golf were among his many activities.

He served his class in many capacities, among them as class vice president 1982-1987 and in 1997, after he was elected at the 70th Reunion. He ran the Reunion in 1992 and edited the class newsletter The Speakeasy for years. These are just a few examples of his devotion to Dartmouth and his class.

His business career started with Conde Nast, then Fisher Toys, after which he moved to Rochester, where he was sales manager and division manager for E.E. Fairchild Corp.

In 1932 he married Franchot Gorsline, Vassar graduate, who died in 1995. Surivivors include his sons, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
