JUNE 1998 Joe Roberts,

Chemical and Engineering News releases its reader's choice for the "Top 75 Distinguished Contributors to the Chemical Enterprise," living or dead. The list includes 32 living scientists, and in the words of its editor is a "who's who of outstanding researchers." We are very proud to learn that Frank Westheimer is one of them. Among his major prizes are a National Academy of Sciences Award in the Chemical Sciences; the ACS Arthur C. Cope Award; 1986 National Medal of Science; 1988 Priestley Medal; member National Academy of Sciences. Jim Whiton is having a good deal of unpleasantness from radiation treatment (finished) and chemo (in progress) for his malignant lymphoma. His address is: 21278 Coulton Ave., Port Charlotte, FL 33952.1 am sure he would appreciate a card.

Sid Alexander is very saddened to hear of the passing of Alex McKenzie and says, "He got me started in 'ham' radio, and together we revitalized the long dormant station on top of Wilder Hall, then known as W 19 band or WIET Mac was chief engineer, and I was chief operator."

We close this month's news sadly, reporting the passing of Wilber H. "Deke" Mack and R. Allen "Al" Keyworth. Their obituaries will be published in this magazine.
