Tew's Day

Teffrey Tew '66 I watched 23 vears of work culminate at the November opening of an educational center in name. Today the first class, of the Tew Center, affiliated with the Miami Rescue Mission. is using groundbreaking techniques de.s'igncd to address the needs of die modern homeless. Here the 1960s-era formula of sobriety and a shower has grown to incorporate a sophisticated, computer-aided education designed to confer em- ployability for homeless men and women. As a supplement to the basic aid supplied by the mission, the center consists of a classroom, a computer bank, and a platoon of volunteer teachers, many of whom were formerly homeless, to help students earn theii high school degrees and develop job skills such as computer literacy.

It's 'lew's way of%hting— not merely treating—homelessness in Miami.
