Much appreciation goes out to Leslie Jennings, one of our star newsletter editors, who compiled the informations came up with the theme,
and wrote a second guest column for our class this year. Thanks, Leslie! The following is her report from San Francisco and beyond...
"On the move...it seems a fitting theme for these notes as everyone in our class is either making a career move, a geographic move, or is just plain on the move...
This year's Race for the Cure in Washington, D.C. with 51,000 entrants believed to be the largest 5K in the world found Kristin Pierce finishing third among all women with a time of 16:59. Wow. A more recent running fanatic, Trudy Muller, is running the San Francisco Marathon this year.
"After running the Big Sur International Marathon myself (along with fellow '96s Brad Parks and Heidi Cleveland), I can say that the hills out here make 26.2 miles no cakewalk. Other extreme classmates include Cindy Weigle and Anita Mannan, who recently participated in the annual AIDS Ride a full week of biking from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
"Tony Mamone is so busy jetsetting around the world for Mercer (and finding himself too often in St. Louis with John Hiler) that he forgets how nice it would be to hang out in his own backyard here in beautiful, post-El Nino San Francisco. Knowing Tony, he's probably making the most of his time outdoors wherever he is. The same can be said for Alex Lehman, as he recently took a break from the hustle and bustle of the banking world by spending a good bit of time in Europe, seeing family, and writing a lot of postcards.
"With any luck, we'll be getting lots of postcards from our many classmates who are busy moving from here to there. Alex Edlich is spending the summer in D.C. doing consulting work and will return to Princeton to continue his studies in the fall. Greg Obenshain moved to Boston to consult for Vertex Partners. Melissa Taylor is moving to New York City, where she will continue to work for Fallon McElligott, an advertising agency. Denali Kemppel is moving to D.C. to work for her Alaskan senator. Betsy Allen will soon take a jaunt across the pond to study at the London School of Economics. Even so, Dan Kalafatas and Hadley Mullen win the prize for moving the greatest distance. They're going to Australia Hadley's continuing to work at Bain; Dan's continuing to hang out and have a good time. Making career and education moves are the following: Alicia Jennings just got a new job at Meet the Press (I might add that your guest columnist, 'the other Jennings,' just got a new position at San Francisco Opera as events coordinator). In the fall Megan Luce will be attending the University of Washington to get her master's in education. Liz Rawson will be studying to be a veterinarian at Tufts. Sara Goodson will be going to Yale for a public health degree."
Echoing Leslie's words...whether you're on the move from East to West, from the Ivory Tower to Wall Street, from the shores of North America to unfamiliar lands, or simply from the couch to the refrigerator, your class secretary and newsletter editors are eager to hear what you're doing.
