Joe McCormick sent along a note saying that he has been a member of SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) for quite a fewyears. "We provide a lot of aid for start-up businesses each year," he said. The clipping he passed on notes that Joe has been elected a member of the board of directors for the Danville, Ill., chapter of SCORE, which is an organization sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration that serves communities voluntarily as counselors to small business.
How long have you been retired? Speaking to several classmates I get the impression that quite a few of you have been in your hammocks for a long while. This seems to be particularly true of those who worked for the oil industry and those who had careers in education. Unfortunately, the College roster doesn't record such trivia. Can you write and give me your date of retirement and the industry you were affiliated with when you stepped down? We'll find out who's been out longest, and perhaps who is still working. I think we'd all find it interesting.
Jerry Tallmer had a long and illustrious career with The New York Post as reporter and critic. Before that he had been one of the founders of The Village Voice. I thought he had retired. But each time we've been to theater in New York, there was Jerry's byline over an article in Playbill, die national magazine of the theater. He's obviously still freelancing there and elsewhere and keeping his name up front.
Just a reminder: Classmates may specify their own gift to be added to the Class of 1942 Scholarship Fund. The fond is growing and is a convenient way to accumulate scholarship dollars to the credit of the class. Guy Swenson, who keeps track of such things for us, writes that a classmate has set up a charitable gift annuity of about $9,800, which is directed to the fund, and is "a welcome addition to a good cause." Contact Guy if you have any questions.
Did you know that both Huntley Allison and Bob Kirk are members of the Upper Valley Men's Chorus and continue to sing at local functions? Keep an ear out for them next time you are in the Hanover area.
