Christine Dußocher is "digging up some very cool stuff in an area called Pukara [Peru] dating circa A.D. 800. There are some nice temple structures and domestic houses so far. Apparently Pukara was quite a politically unstable area until several years ago so it is fairly untouched." On weekends she and her team venture from the field to metropolitan Puno, where they salsa on Saturday nights. In addition to digging and dancing, Chrissa survived a harrowing chase by a bull, according to Molly Hershey.
Sarah Mullin blitzed with news that JenLeahy joined the Peace Corps and is heading to Africa's Bamako Mali for training. Sarah has been in Hanover working for the Green Card and wrote that the Green Card's capabilities of buying stuff off campus is now part of the Dartmouth ID as a result of a new contract with the College. "Things are changing all over the place," she said, including the new Dartmouth ID, which Sarah designed. She also said that Liam Krehbiel, now in London, is getting plans together for Dartmouth alums to race (and party) at the Head of the Charles regatta in October.
Meghan Pound, en route to Duke Law School, mentioned that Amy Feldmann and Mona Gupta are off to med school this fall; Amy to Washington University and Mona to the University of Arkansas. Kelley Sidley is trading in her job at Clinique for a student's life again as she begins a master's program in art history at N.Y.U. And MegBlakey is temporarily in Hickory, N.C., contemplating a career in rodeo.
Rob Nutt hailed from Hanover, where he has been toiling on two projects at DHMC this summer: the first to improve the care of children with chronic illnesses and their families and the second to form a focus group to improve communication between families with deaf children and their doctors. Rob is starting his second year at Dartmouth Med with classmates CindyYang, Sarah Greer, and Jennifer Vines and first-year Katie Bardzik. Rob blitzed me right after a picnic at Jon Drew's house where he, Wendy Lee, Julie McGuire,Sarah Mullin, and other were celebrating Jon and Rachel Bogardus's move to San Francisco.
Molly Hershey sent in an update chock full of tidbits: she is finally leaving the Upper Valley and starting a job in New York City in the development/fundraising department at New Visions for Public Schools. The non-profit organization runs 40 small schools in the city as well as enrichment programs in the public schools. Molly sees plenty of Kevin Arista, who is blazing through the Soho gallery world, and George Pazvankas, who is starting his second year at Mt. Sinai Med School. On rare occasions, they see StuDavidson when he stirs from his cubicle at Salomon Smith Barney. Uptown, CaryAllen is starting her first year at Columbia Law. In Atlanta Amanda Glenn just moved into a new apartment in time for the second year of her Ph.D. program at Emory. Daria Zibluk plans to return stateside from Japan. She just finished vacationing in Vietnam with ChristieStrumpen-Darrie. Newsletter editor Karen Rose finished her summer job at Lawyers for Children in N.Y.C., a nonprofit organization that provides law guardians for kids in foster care. She heads back to Ann Arbor for her second year at University of Michigan law school. JackiRose just finished her job with the corporation counsel in the New York City Law Department. Karen writes that Jackie had lunch with Mayor Giuliani recently and will be returning to Columbia Law for her second year.
And Eric White, still at Microstrategy in northern Virginia, revealed that his dog Lucy has entered the acting profession. In her latest commercial for Reasor's Foods, Lucy proudly sports a Dartmouth collar. Eric reports that his dog now makes more than he does per hour and he is contemplating a career switch to canine agent.
