Christmas greetings to alllWe have started thinking about Christmas by gathering as we go "just the perfect gifts" for families and friends. Will they enjoy them as much as we did choosing them?
September and the fall, as always, was an exciting and busy time in Hanover. The students returned to campus bringing much paraphernalia (and dogs). We took part in a well-organized and run Leadership Weekend, with attendees from most states. Dartmouth had a substantial increase in its Alumni Fund for the 1998-99 year. Bequests and trusts doubled it with over $30 million. We attended aa usual the always-impressive Convocation exercises, now held in the Leede Arena. This year the new provost, Susan Westerberg Prager, presided, and President Jim Wright gave his charge to the class of 2003! The president of the Student Assembly Dean Krishna '01 and Medical School Dean of Students and Minority Affairs Lori Arviso Alvord '79, both listed for remarks, gave inspiring messages to all present. We are sad to announce that HermRichardson died this August. His brotherin-law Art Highswander spoke at his service. Two class widows are gone, Mrs. BlythAdams and Mrs. Art Bergeron. The class sends condolences to the families. From Rip:
"Lord help me as I step aside, And step aside I must, Know the luxury of Loyalty And the peace of mind of Trust"
