I got such a terrific, informative e-mail submission from Kathleen Joyce Kusiak recently that I have made her this month's guest columnist. Take it away, Kathleen:
"I have had a pretty busy life recently. I just completed my tenure as president of the Dartmouth Club of Greater Boston, so I go up to Hanover a lot. I got married in May of 1997 to a great guy named Kurt Kusiak. He is a litigator for a law firm here in Boston and has become a real fan of Dartmouth. I also have a new son, John Tosca Kusiak, born July 21, 1998. I'm having a great time as a mom. I've been working part time since he was born and will go back to work full time when he is three months old. I have a feeling it will be prettyhard. He is in my left arm now as I type with my right one.
"The booming Boston real estate market has kept me incredibly busy in my career. I've been working in commercial real estate and construction for the past ten years. I'm in charge of business development and strategic planning for a construction company called Beacon Skanska in Boston. It is the New England office of Skanska AB (which I learned recendy is now the largest building construction company in the world.) It is a fun job in an exciting industry, at least from my perspective.
"Since I have a bit of free time, I thought I'd update you on what's going on with the people with whom I stay in touch: "Mary Bourque recently got married in Hawaii and is having a very successful career at JP Morgan in New York. She does research on the Latin American market.
"Lisa Sweeney Caputo was married a couple of years ago and had a baby boy about nine months ago. She is leaving Boston to move to Seattle, where she and her husband are building a home.
"David and Diane DeLuca Gabianelli are living in San Francisco. They have a son who is 1 1/2. She is vice president of operations for a health food start-up. David is a litigator for an environmental law firm.
"John and Jennifer Lane Hamlin are moving from Austin, Texas, to Japan for two years as part of John's job with Dell Computer. Before they leave, they are off on a trip to Africa with Briggs Ferguson and his wife.
"Leslie Wilson Hillburn has left her job at USTrust in Boston and has moved back to Houston. She and her husband have a little girl.
"Christine Foley Kollmorgen just left the Mayo Clinic, where she was a surgeon. She is joining a private practice in Oregon. She and her husband have two sons.
"Anne Kubik and Mike Krupka live in Lexington, Mass. Anne is an ob-gyn at Winchester Hospital and had a baby boy on July IS. Mike is working at Bain Capital in Boston.
"Jeff Schwartz got married a few years back and has a ten-month-old daughter. He is a trader for Merrill Lynch. His wife, Leigh, counsels women with eating disorders.
"Rick Weiler got married in 1997 and runs a company called 2D Interactive in Cambridge.
"Carolyn Negley Wester took some time off this summer after finishing a fellowship in urogynecology. She has two sons and plans to continue practicing medicine in Chicago."
Thanks for all the news, Kathleen. You made my job easy this month!
