Remember the NFC championship game this season when the Vikings had the ball with about 35 seconds left in Regulation and a tie game? Without a whole lot going for them, their coach decided to have the quarterback "take a knee," run out the game clock, and regroup in overtime. That's kind of how I feel writing the column this month; not much in the way of news. The smart play may be to just take a knee" and regroup for next month. But me Vikings lost that game so I've got to give it a go.
Fellow C&Ger Mark Winkler sent me an e-mail correcting an entry about him in a previous column. Mark does live in Pleasantville (not the recent movie, but the real place). However, he has been working in the magazine finance department at Reader's Digest for the past 11 years, not a magazine called Finance. Other Greeners at Readers who read our previous Class Notes are wondering how Mark found time to moonlight at that other magazine. Still an axe-throwing, berry-eating, navigate-by-the-stars kind of guy, Mark climbed the rugged Bigelow Range in the White Mountains of Maine last August and spent two weeks in the Rockies from Denver to Yellowstone with his family following a good portion of the Oregon Trail.
While Mark and family were at high altitudes I got a nice e-mail from JulianSchmoke, who has been pretty much underground these past IS years (it's been more like 20, Julian).
Julian writes that, he "talks to MarlowHicks every couple of months and MoSimmons once a year, but I don't communicate with people nearly as much as I should." You're not alone, Julian! Julian is living in the Atlanta metro area, a Falcons fan. He's been married for over 13 years and they have a nine-year-old daughter. (So do I, Julian. Mine's going to a convent soon.) Julian is working in the computer industry and teaching electronics as an adjunct instructor at DeVry Institute. He writes that he's going to make a real strong effort to be at our 20th and hopes to see everyone brave enough to show off how much weight they've gained and hair they have lost (count me in!).
Speaking of our 20th Reunion, my new hero is John Currier, who has (been) volunteered to head up our reunion committee. My Mexico LSA buddy's biggest challenge will be to recreate the familiar fraternity basement smell that brings a smile to so many of our faces now that the "cleansing" has been announced. Juan, you'll do great! He will be looking for volunteers so step up to the plate, you guys!
Dave Crampton spotted a CT license plate that said WAZU and sent me an email thinking it was me blowing his doors off. It wasn't me but it was a good excuse to get reacquainted. Dave spends a fair bit of time on the weekends on the slopes of Vermont with his wife and three kids (8, 6, 4; b, g, b). He had been running a small web company providing information on public schools to families that are moving called "The School Report" (). He just sold the company a few months back and probably moved on to something new by now.
My 600 words are up. I, too, think it's time to move on. Be fine!
