Greetings from Ward 9.... Brilliant golden shafts of sunlight turn the flanks of Mt. Tamalpais shades of purple as the lighthouse on Alcatraz beams its warning intermittently. Full moon rising behind me. Sausalito, Belvedere, and Angel Island fill out my awesome view. American flags wave proudly from many a roof top. It is the beginning of the end of another tough day in northern California.

I am so honored to be the keeper of this hallowed column with my brother James Wazoo for the next five years. I trust we can keep you entertained as well as informed. Anything you say or do can and will be used against you. We welcome your correspondence and will gleefully fabricate the rest.

Robertson, Stephens, and Co. (famous investment banking firm) has been keeping me busy at night while I earned my teaching credential during the day. I've been teaching self-respect, peace, and dignity via the out- doors for the past year hoping to change a few lives. I have certainly changed my own.

Upon receiving my class secretary's list, I immediately began my hunt for friends old and new. So do beware; none of you are safe!

The Great Scantani reports from Flagstaff that he has embraced the Mormon faith and has amassed a harem of a dozen young, nubile wives. Diane, his first, is still his favorite as she bore him their beautiful children, Sawyer and Reilly. Senator "Cowboy" Swanson lives close by and is a definite mover and shaker on the local political scene.

Caught large Chuck Vieth vacationing on the banks of the Chesapeake with his brood. He disputes the prevailing trend of balding, paunchier physiques—swearing he has maintained his college fighting weight and has even more hair. (Where is the question...)

Took a wonderful walk with Carol Geig up in the Oakland Hills; she was as engaging and radiant as always, ever consumed with enhancing the lives of children and adults through her psychotherapy practice.

Mark Tomalonis made reunion from Palo Alto, Calif., without checking with his good buddies Don Hoffman, Jeff Cloud and Charlie Hatton. Much to his disappointment they failed to make the journey, but he had a fine time hanging with Roger Rumer. Heading home he made a side trip to Sesame World with his wife and two children. As he scanned the crowd—who caught his eye but Charlie Hatton himself, who was moonlighting as Big Bird for charity. It's a small world after all.

Eddie Jaicks never sounded happier now that Cleveland finally has a winning ball club.

Beth Blatt told me how much she misses me in perfect Japanese in between takes at TV Tokyo in Manhattan.

Thayer Wendell Adams took time out from her toy company and family in Woodside, Calif., to catch up on life and discuss the Kim Perry manifesto.

Jennifer Hughes was busy with her children in Piedmont, Calif., but seemed well, as expected. Missy Pemberton Devlin and husband, Roy, are steadily building their empire in Southeast Asia from Seattle.

I heard the news today, oh boy.. .Jerry Garcia has passed on to the netherworld. I'll never forget first seeing Jerry and the boys in Thompson Arena our junior year with so many of you. Many shows with Sully, Frankie, Rich Pugh, Klingon and Pablo (Krupka) followed. For many of us life won't be the same without Jerry. We can only be forever grate-ful for the memories he gave us.

Frankie and his wife, Claudia, have a new baby girl, Amy, born the day after the news of Jerry—proving once again that the circle of life continues.
