At last year's mini-reunion, it was the desire of those present to continue our yearly get-togethers and so the next reunion will be held on the weekend of October 6-7, 2000. The football game will be Yale! Please make note of this date. Facilities for our meals will be in the Hanover Inn or the Tindle Lounge, as were lastyear's. The pertinent details will be included in my letters, which you will receive in the late summer or early fall. The Hanover Inn is booked for that weekend...try if you want, but I will reserve a block of rooms at the Marriott Residence Inn as I did last year. Of course, you may go wherever you desire.
In a previous column I made mention of Nick Lowery '78, our Ail-American placekicker who was drafted and played for the Kansas City Chiefs. In digging into past history, I found that Nick kicked 383 field goals after touchdowns.
As we all know, the '00 Alumni Fund is well under way. Both Gil and Jack are enthused and confident that we can, once again, meet and exceed our objectives. So, for those of you who have not sent your check to Gil, or to one of his workers, please do so right away—'38 needs your support.
I regret having to report the death of four of our classmates: Peter Talbot, Dick Jones,Jim McGovern and Hal Sprague. Our sympathies are with their families.
I received an interesting letter from our Bremen, Maine, photo journalist Red Boutilier regarding his contacts with Sturgis White, his roommate for the sophomore year in Middle Fayerweather. "(Sturgis) has a unique way of observing the 84th birthday: He went to an airport in Fredericks, Va., and did another controlled sky-dive from an airplane. Actually, he has done two or three of them. I'm amazed!!! I often get dizzy spells just walking on the ground," writes Red. "I am still kicking, but not very high. I work every day and have had five articles published in MaineBoats and Harbors Magazine." Stay healthy!
