The new millennium has started off well, although very cold (and snow expected here in Atlanta. Chuck Goss has his own special Y2K story to share... Chuck writes; "My fiance (Beth Carroll) is the news anchor of the ABC affiliate in Springfield, Mass. I asked her to marry me live at midnight within the first 30 seconds of the new millennium. They cut away from Dick Clark in Times Square 20 seconds after the ball dropped. Her co-anchor and the sports reporter waved me over, and I asked her. She was totally stunned and said nothing. Realizing she had to give an answer, she finally said 'yes.' She'll never forgive me, but we'll never forget it." So, Chuck, we'll want an update soon of your wedding, and all of the '84s who inevitably will attend!
Andrea Kaufman Aronson sent a wonderful newsy e-mail that gives us an update on her life, family and friends. Andrea relays that she received her M.B.A. from Wharton/U>Penn in 1989, and married Steve Aronson (Brown '84) in 1991. There was a number of Dartmouth folks both at the wedding and in the wedding party (Jane Trust, Miriam Cilo Suzanne Burnham '85 and Ricki Frankel '85 were bridesmaids, among others). They have two kids, Michael (almost 5) and Alexandra (2). Although Andrea and her family live in northern New Jersey, she commutes four hours a day to Wilmington, Del., where she works for First USA Bank as a senior vice president in marketing. Andrea reports that Mary Meeker is married to Mike Alber and has two children (Michelle and John). The family was living in Chicago until late December, when they moved to Tokyo for about three years. Mary received her M.B.A. from Wharton in '88, but is now pursuing a master's/Ph.D. in New Age organization behavior. Marsha Trant is married to Jordan Schlick and has two children (Evan and Claire). She received her M.B.A. from Tuck in '89 and recently relocated to San Francisco from Baltimore with IBM. Brett Aronow is married to Keith Stein (Brown '84) and has 3-year-old twin boys Baxter and Griffin and daughter Quincy, 2. They hail from Westport, Conn.
From further north, we had news from Fred Bopp. Fred is the president of the alumni club in Portland, Maine. Fred noted that the big event for the club was a visit from President Wright this past summer. On a personal note, Fred and his wife, Jane, are enjoying the challenges of their 21 -month-old son lan and are expecting a second child in July.
Kathy Krause, our co-class secretary, sent me a short bio to share. Kathy received her Ph.D. from Penn in 1992, specializing in French medieval literature. She spent a year in France directing Penn's foreign study program in Lyon, then two years teaching at Clemson University in South Carolina. She's now assistant professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. When not teaching, serving on committees or writing scholarly articles, she's singing in the choir at the Episcopal Cathedral and volunteering for the Kansas City Community Kitchen (cooking, fundraising and job-training). In the summer you can find Kathy in France directing foreign study, doing research in Paris or hiking in the Alps.
Thanks for all of the e-mails and news. Keep it coming to either me (the one with the brother in Raleigh, N.C., who occasionally picks up a cigar for photo ops) or Kathy Krause.
