Home Turf Advantage What do mud season and lacrosse have in common? Both start in March. But Dartmouth's lacrosse teams will never again be mired in the muck, thanks to brand-new Scully-Fahey Field. Located behind Thompson Arena, the $3 million field features artifical turf, which is easily cleaned (and plowed, as the above photo demonstrates) and makes for a faster, more efficient playing surface than grass. It also made for the earliest season opener in Dartmouth history. The College's nationally ranked women's team trounced state rival UNH, 18-5, in the March 5 game. Made possible through donations from Donald Scully '49 and Peter Fahey '68, the 86,400-square-foot field boasts nightlighting butstillawaits bleachers for 1,600 fans. The venue will also serve as a practice facility for other Dartmouth sports teams. David Sherzer '02
