A note from Mildred and BobPowell, enclosing a clipping of an obituary of Alf Jones in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, told how Alf and Bob attended the same high school in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, and together did the commute to and from Hanover for four years. For the preparation of my Class Notes column in DAM it is very helpful if classmates send me clippings of current 1931 obituaries because DAM publishes these in chronological order. Meanwhile, Jim Frame kindly sent me a copy of an obituary of Bill White from the Boston Globe, and I have sent the clippings about Alf and Bill to Hanover.

A survey of recent Class Notes columns in that I am one of the very few secretaries who can't send or receive fax and e-mail. I still type our Class Notes columns and obituaries for DAM on my trusty Royal, which has a Spanish keyboard. I bought same in Lima, Peru, many years ago.

The department of physics and astronomy at the College sent copies of its Wilder Notes of May 2000 to alumni who had majored in physics. Of these, John Boermeester and I are the only 1931s left. I had previously sent Wilder a summary of the portions of my career dealing with that discipline, and was given a nice writeup in that publication.

The department is doing a superior job in attracting undergraduates of the caliber of the 12 majors graduating in June. Keep up the good work!
