Bruce McKissock was inducted into the Pennsylvania Lacrosse Hall of Fame earlier this year. Bruce's playing career in the Commonwealth spanned nearly 30 years, from Lower Merion High School to adult leagues. In between, he was a high school All American in 1961 and first team collegiate All American at Dartmouth in 1966, in addition to winning All-Ivy and All-New England honors. Bruce was also an all-star seven times in his 15 years with the Philadelphia Lacrosse Club.
Bill Wilson didn't study Japanese at the College. But he fell in love with the country and the culture during a post-Dartmouth Japanese coastal kayak trip, and there's been no turning back. He has become a student and expert on Japanese language and made it his profession. Bill has translated the wisdom of Yamamoto Tsunetomo in The Book of the Samurai Hagakure, whose lessons are being used in the new movie, Ghost Dog. He has also translated a half dozen other Japanese classics, including the two-volume, ume,4,000-page novel Taiko by Elji Yoshikawa (that took three-plus years!). Bill lives in South Florida, paddles and translates whenever he can and is proud that his son Matthew '90 recently married Jessica Gordon (Smith'90).
Greg Eden's quest for a classic car was chronicled in The Washington Times earlier this year. Greg first drove an Austin-Healey around Hanover 35 years ago. Now an Alexandria, Virginia, investment banker, Greg finally found a 13-foot-long racing green 1967 Austin Healey 3000 Mark III in northern New Jersey. Its not exactly a family car, measuring only 3 feet by 9 inches from door to door inside. But it handles adroitly and brings back a host of fond Big Green memories. Maine Gov. Angus King is, naturally, in the press regularly. One of his recent proposals caught our attention. The governor wants to put a laptop computer in the hands of every seventh grader in Maine, and the Maine legislature is going along with the initiative. Good move. It's less than a year to our, ready, 35th Reunion, June 11-14,2000, in Hanover. Full details will come, but some rooms have already been set aside for us at the Hanover Inn. Rather sleep at the corner than Wheeler Hall? Then call (800) 443-7024 to stake a claim.
Enjoy the summer and pass along your latest news.
