Save the Dates Now: Class of 1971's 30th reunion is scheduled for June 14-17,2001! Pete Webster, chairman of the 30th reunion committee, is "looking for seven key committee members to handle: entertainment and sports events, panel discussions, souvenirs, the class dinner, food and beverage, promotion and, last but definitely not least, the money (i.e. reunion treasurer). E-mail me (newaddress is selectmane@ssexct.net) or call (860) 767-4340, extension 114, with your ideas/suggestions: possibilities include an art show of works done by classmates and spouses; a silent auction over the four days, benefiting our class projects; maybe a book display of works authored by classmates. Also, need ideas for a reunion logo representative of our four years on the Hanover Plain. If possible, come a day earlier for a great overnight experience at Moosilauke Ravine Lodge and see what our class has done to renovate, expand and endow the Class of '71 Benton Bunkhouse, and also Tim Dreisbach's generous contribution that updated all the kitchen equipment. Only 65 bunks, on a first-come basis, and we will be sharing this unique facility with the class of'76. Its $55 per person, which gets you a bunk, dinner, breakfast, trail lunch for the climb to the 4,800-foot summit, and some wonderful memories. Please let me hear from you, and set aside those June dates right now!"

Lots of'71 progeny up on the Plain these days: Robert Lafsky was planning to attend daughter Melissa's graduation with the class of 2000 in June. And Bob "Auggie" Augello has been "getting megadoses of Dartmouth lately as my sons are in the classes of'02 and'03. The students seem to be enjoying the College for the same reasons we did: plenty of activities, challenging courses, good friends and an environment which encourages independence. Another thing that hasn't changed: the weather. My son calls it the land of granite and ice. Recalling January of our freshman year, I remain unsympathetic."

Michael "Doc" Welch has had a "family practice in upstate New York since 1976, most recently paired with Dr. Robert Ringler '77. We do occasional alumni interviews. Brother Andy '76 is director of admissions at the Dartmouth Medical School. My wife of 25 years (the former Anne Sweeney, a not infrequent visitor our senior year) is a music teacher. We have four sons. Sean is working on a doctorate in electrical engineering/computer science at Cornell. Brian has just finished his junior year at St. Lawrence University, also in electrical engineering. (He's on the ski team so has been in Hanover more the past few years than I have.) David will attend St. Lawrence University in the fall, and Evan, who is going into ninth grade, is active in both football and alpine skiing." Simon Potter sent "Greetings from Montreal, where we think we may just have anesthetized the separatist beast for the foreseeable. My litigation and trade law practice continues to go just a little bit faster than I can, and I am about to slow myself down by getting on the vice-presidential ladder leading towards the presidency of the Canadian Bar Association in 2002-2003."

Don't forget the dates! Start planning your reunion trip now! See you next June!
