Now's the time to make your plans for the great 60th reunion June 10-11-12, 2002. John Corwith's reunion committee is hard at work on event plans, speakers, good food and drink and lots more. It will be followed by Dave Heald's "extension" at the fabulous resort, The Balsams, from June 12-14. You'll be getting a letter with all the details, reservation forms, etc. at the turn of the year.
Dr.John Glesmann was honored by the Somerset (New Jersey) Medical Center last May during festivities recognizing 21 leaders for impacting the growth of the center and the quality of health care in general. John resides in Flemington and served as chief of anesthesiology from i960 to 1992. He went on to New York University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Bellevue Hospital Center. When not spending time with his three sons, he is said to enjoy breeding and racing horses.
Retired professor Alex Hooker writes from Ripon, Wisconsin, that in i960 he was "director of the Ripon College Renaissance Tour in Europe, and while in Rome...had a very pleasant visit with Alex Fanelli and his wife (Betty)." I have an article written by Jerry Tallmer on his relationship and escapades with Babe Fanelli before, during and after WWII. If you'd like a copy, write me.
In response to our idea for recognizing the role of our classmates in WWII, the family of Robert Owen Burns sent two letters from James Forrestal, Secretary of the Navy during that period. The first was the presentation of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Ensign Burns for heroism as a fighter pilot during the battle against Japan; the second was to his widow, Joyce, transforming his status from missing in action to deceased. Bob was survived by Joyce; his daughter Ann Burns Chapman and seven grandchildren.
The College reports that nine deceased classmates had books selected and plated during the past fiscal year as part of the Alumni Memorial Book Program. Those honored were: Gordon Burgess, M.D., George Hinkley, Peter Koelsch, Edward McKinlay, Howard Morse, Richard Peebles, David Sargent, Edwin Spiegel Jr. and Robert Waldron.
