Although you receive this issue in the fall, I'm writing this at the end of the summer—August to be more precise. While doing so, I'm reminiscing on what our family did these past few months: walks on the beach, mountains, kayaking, visiting geographically distant friends and relatives and such. Which gets me thinking that it would be interesting for classmates to share some of their "what I did on summer vacation" happenings and read about them during the spring. This also would fit nicely with the DAM story planned for the spring that will focus on Dartmouth's "special places." You remember this from my last Notes, don't you? Therefore, when I cold-call you later this winter, be prepared to discuss your summer events, as well as your favorite spots on the Dartmouth campus and why. Alternatively, drop me an email so you can state it in your own words, without my translation. Include pictures and maybe we can get Michael McCoy to post them on the class Web page.

In case you missed the announcement, we're having a mini-reunion/class meeting gala during the Columbia football weekend. Activities include a Bonfire march (7:30 p.m., October 19), class meeting (10 a.m., October 20), and tailgate and football halftime punch in front of Alumni Gym. Also, at the class meeting you'll have the opportunity to meet Mary Cipollone '02, our class's Dartmouth Partners in Community Service Tucker intern. Bags Mitchell guarantees no rain. He didn't say anything about snow.

Some classmate happenings trickled in during the summer. A posting in the Windham Independent in New Hampshire boasts that Ed Schiavoni Jr., M.D., F.A.C.P., an internist practicing with Southern New Hampshire Internal Medicine Associates in Deny, New Hampshire, recently was inducted as a fellow in the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine (or ACP-ASIM, to add more letters to Ed's title and to this sentence). The distinction recognizes achievement in internal medicine, specializing in adult medical care. Since 1977 Dr. Ed has been both clinical instructor at the University of Vermont College of Medicine and adjunct assistant professor at Dartmouth Medical School (nice commute!). He's also on the board of trustees of Parkland Medical Center. Ed and his family reside in Windham.

Sources inform that Stanley Weil has exited Sports Illustrated, where he was in charge of licensing the famous swimsuit issue. Stan is now at Rodale Press in charge of global licensing. So let me get this straight, from swimsuit issue to men's health? The air must be thin in Katonah.

Received word that Tom O'Neil III was elevated to the position of senior vice president and general counsel of World Com Inc.'s MCI division. In this position he directs all matters related to law, public policy and consumer affairs. Tom serves as a key advisor to COO Wayne Huyard. He also no longer has to negotiate Bigfoot deals with Bags. Tom resides in Baltimore, Maryland, and works in D.C.

That's it. Keep em coming! Hope you had a great summer (we'll find out soon enough).
