The Saturday night dinner on our mini-reunion weekend produced a record crowd of more than 70. If the event continues to grow, the class may have to seek a new venue, because the dining room at the Alden Inn was bursting at the seams.
Twenty-six classmates and a large number of spouses attended the class meeting on Saturday at Susan and Peter Williamsons home. The minutes of the meeting are available on the class Web site. For those not online, there are some items of note. First, the goal for the 2000-01 Alumni Fund has been set at $425,000, to be raised by June 30. Our head agent John Trimble has assembled a group of able assistants who will be in touch to seek and ensure our participation, so please dig deep to help the College when you get the call.
The other item of note from the meeting was the decision to push ahead with plans for weekend gatherings at locations other than Hanover. Several ideas and locations are in the works. One is international gatherings, and information can be found on the Web site about a proposed trip in May to Portugal. As the meeting concluded, Bob Eleveld presented the class award for continued and distinguished service to John Murphy for his more than a decade of wonderful work as newsletter editor, which has done so much for class communication and unity.
Other news received announced the publication of The Dialectical Development of Doctrine:A Methodological Approach by our own Charles Dickinson III, Ph.D. The work proposes that Christianity, in order to avoid becoming out of touch with the world, engage in a two-way dialectic between theology and the world. It is available from Dove Booksellers, 13904 Michigan Ave., Dearborn, MI 48126.
Finally, some very sad news. Dale Sarles lost his battle with a brain tumor discovered last February and passed away on November 29, and Henry M. "Pete" Johnson Jr.'s widow has informed us that he died on January 16,2000. Obituaries have been submitted to the AlumniMagazine. Also, Sally Prescott, hostess at our Friday receptions on mini-reunion weekends for more than a decade, died in a fall in her home in Norwich, Vermont, on October 29. Sally had moved to the Upper Valley after Bill's death, worked for the College in alumni affairs, and become very active in class activities. In appreciation for all her efforts and support over the years, the class has presented a gift in her memory to the College.
