1939

Since our last we have lost four more men. Belatedly we learned of Bill Buge's passing on August 16 of last year. Don Lawder died in the African country of Mali on December 12, and Frank Farnell died on December 13. And we have just had word of the passing of Dave Long on January 14.

President Hanna advises that John Perry has accepted his invitation to join Tom Brooks and chairman Mert Tarlow on the man-of-the-year award committee. John and Marilyn celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in the Presidents Suite at the Boston Ritz last September. After attending their grandsons wedding in Connecticut, they took off for some R&R on Amelia Island Plantation, Florida, where they enjoyed perfect weather until returning to the chilly north in mid November.

January drop-ins to Vero Beach were the peripatetic Doc Tower, who was almost on the eve of another exotic trip, this one from Hong Kong to Greece in 35 days via ship. Also, Jim and Doris Corner on their way south. The Corners were looking forward to their annual lunch with Bette Timbers. Bill Borsdorff is now a year-round resident of Tequesta, Florida, having retired from J&J after 30 years service in 1976. He's still on the golf course, though he suffers some health problems, as we all do. The Warner Kiefabers and Bozo Nolands put in the month of March in Boca Gran

Duke Lyon writes a thank-you Green Card and notes that he moved back to his roots in Connecticut on January 13. After many years on Cape Cod, the Lyons have located at 316 Dogwood, Southbury, CT 06488. George Brakeley Jr., one of our three honorary members, has regretfully resigned from our class membership. He suggests that as it was Bert MacMannis who was his connection with '39, he now feels he should resign. We happen to know that Bert greatly admired the job that George did in connection with his firm's handling one of Dartmouth's special fund drives. We are sad to see George leave the 1939 rolls.
