The class suffered a monstrous blow with the untimely death of our president of 36 years, Bert MacMannis, on June 20 at the Stamford (Conn.) Hospital. Also gone is Bob Thomas, who died at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center on May 2.
From Rog Stanwood we learn that he and Margaret attended a "D" gathering in Houston and renewed an old friendship with President Wright He says they were the oldest in attendance and noted that he was really shook up when the president announced that he was born in 1939.
Did you know that Jim Wright's secretary for the past 30 years is Tina Linden Overman, the daughter of Barbara Wells and Osmo Linden? Tina was not yet bom when Osmo was killed in an auto accident, so she never had the pleasure, as many of us did, of knowing her dad. Tina's mom, Barbara, lives with the Overmans in Plainfield, New Hampshire. Barbara Wells passed on these little-known facts.
Doris and Jim Corner had their usual March visit in Florida with Bette Timbers. Bette came north to Nantucket for the summer where she is happy to have four daughters nearby in Connecticut, Newjersey and Cape Cod. Son Bob remains in San Francisco.
Speaking of Florida visits, Jack Coulson reported a dinner in March with Bob Alpert, Jim Corner, Robb DeGraff, Sam Thurm, Johnny Finocan, wives, friends and Grace Farringtron.
Betsy Wyman has deserted Florida for good, and is spending the full year at her northern address in Exeter, New Hampshire, at 7 RiverWoods Drive, 03833. Moreau Brown had a successful triple bypass on April 20 in San Francisco, and by June 1 was a guest of the class of 1950 at its St. Lawrence University reunion in Canton, New York. Brownie admitted this class 54 years ago when he served the university as dean of admissions. By the time this is read, Allan Friedlich and wife will have completed a summer hiking trip in Scotland.
Treasurer Cornie Miller just had his fourth pacemaker successfully put in place, and our VP Al Tishman is just home from the hospital and is now on the mend.
