Grass, emeralds, cucumbers, tenderfeet, shamrock, go, freshman beanies. For more on this verdant topic, lets hear from deponents in the Evergreen State.

All's well in Tacoma with John Lesher, who still weighs 152, thanks to a wise diet and lotsa racquetball. His and Alices condo overlooks Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. Not bad. Son Mark lives nearby and daughter Ann is an Army M.D.John sees Bill Trier, keeps up with Stan Barr and Jean Allen, fondly recalls along ago dinner with Buzz Beattie and Fritz Hier, and is a big fan of Al Hormels newsletter. John goes to a summer cabin near Sanford, Maine, but hasn't made it to Hanover since graduating in 1948. He can, however, be enticed to our 2004 gala.

About that dinner, Buzz Beattie says it was on him, and happy to do it for Dartmouth, for classmates, and cheers for Ernest Martin Hopkins, class of 1901. Early last year Buzz's back was victimized by a collapsing ladder. By the time you read this he expects to be back in action rooting for his beloved Detroit Tigers, whose home games he could attend for a 6-cent trolley ride. Buzz has been all over the world as a liability insurance entrepreneur and loves calling Bellevue home. Son Jim is a superchef across Lake Washington in Seatde. Daughter Amanda figure skates competitively in Denver.

During his career as a Navy plastic surgeon, retired four-striper Bill Trier spent only 22 months at sea. Fittingly, he and Kathleen now cruise Puget Sound and adjacent waters from Olympia to Princess Louise Sound in their Nordic tug. Drier and comfier than the sailboat they used to have. After moving 18 times (Navy, medical school posts at Arizona, North Carolina, UDub) they cast anchor in Seattle 16 years ago and don't intend to budge, except for opera in Vienna and the annual Mozart Festival in Salzburg. Bill's membership in the Puget Sound Civil War Roundtable confirms his Confederate heritage, viz., Pickett's charge at Gettysburg. Sons Bill Jr. '71 and Peter live in Cleveland and Berkeley, respectively.

Out of space. Issue after next let's hope for news of George Cornell, Gil Anthony and Tanya Davidson.

Sadly, give farewell wah-hoo-wahs for Dick Morse, Rowan Crawford and Jim McClinfock.
