June-July 1957: Pete Geithner "Crossing Swords" with Bob Dean and John Musa at the Little Creek Officers' Club in Ocean, Virginia; Paul Sullivan leaving the Army and joining the Edsel division of Ford; Endel Raidmetz at Fort Sill, Bill Grover with the 37th Airborne Division and Dick Pearl at Wright Patterson AFB. Graduating from Harvard Law School: Don Berlin, Herb Gildan, Milne Holton, Ron Lehrman and Bob Vock.
Don Miller writes from California, where he has retired after serving many years as headmaster of Pennington School in New jersey. Don has a Ph.D. in educational administration and supervision from the University of Michigan and taught for 36 years at various levels. He brought to our attention his Web site, "The Power of Visual Thinking" ( www.seeit-learnit.com). The purpose of his site is to help teachers and parents educate children more efficiently and effectively so that the children being taught understand and retain what they learn.
Again from our ski-chief Jay Davis: "Ten '54s who rightly or wrongly perceive themselves as not being old enough yet to either play golf or go fishing gathered in Aspen, Colorado, for five days of alpine skiing and fun. This intrepid group included Jay Davis, Cliff Evans, Dick Gorsey, Tony Kane, Dana Low, Stearns Martin, Steve Mullins, Art Rauch, George Shaw and Tom Tyler. On day No. 4 at Highlands, Cliff Evans's altimeter watch showed a rather amazing 22,600 feet of downhill skiing accomplished. Mullins was the only one who attempted—unsuccessfully—to put a dent in the mountain, but walked away; we hope to ski again another day. The third annual Ski-Mini in Aspen will begin on Monday, March 4,2002."
A more sensible group of '54s showed their athletic ability by attending the second annual '54 Golf Outing in Crystal River, Florida, during the last week of February. Three rounds of golf at difference courses and plenty of socializing. Attending were: Liz and Tom Kelsey, Elizabeth and Shelly Wolfe, Anne and Rick Hartman, Lynda and Pete Schenck (all the way from California), Judy and Mort Galper, Don Berlin Jinny and John Pope, Joey and Don Keller, Joan and Jim To fias, Sue and Harry Rockefeller, Marilyn and Dick Gorsey, Jane and Dick Page, Audrey and Dick Lewis, Gerry Zwart, Patty and Bob Osmond (Bob chaired the event), Kit and Bob Dean, Fay and Bob Berry, Bill Garland and Mary and Alex Gray. Alex will use his hotel experience to chair next year's event, which will also be held the last week in February 2002.
Dick Steinberg reports a full knee replacement in mid-January after a family sailing vacation in the Grenadine Islands. He noted that our bionic reunion chair John Gillespie was a great source of advice.
As these Notes are written, your secretary leaves for another '54 mini reunion at the Gettysburg battlefields.
Happy 70th birthday to: Phil Cooke, George Shaw, Ed Everett and Don Harrington.
